Here's the trailer to 1971's
The Omega Man, the second (official) film adaptation of Richard Matheson's novel,
I Am Legend, and the second of Charlton Heston's
Space: 1970-era sci-fi triptych (
Planet of the Apes, The Omega Man, Soylent Green). Look for a full-length post on this quintessential Seventies doomsday flick in a day or two....
I work on the Ranch Lot, Chucks "fortress" apartment is still here, we all just went up to the balcony a few weeks back....the fountain he expired in is still here too, only these days they call it the "Friends Fountain"..........I know better!

Looking forward to your full post on this warmly remembered film. As the author of the recently released RICHARD MATHESON ON SCREEN, I am of course mindful of the fact that the first version, THE LAST MAN ON EARTH, is by far the most faithful adaptation of the novel. Yet I am also a die-hard fan of '60s and '70s cinema, and in that capacity I enjoy THE OMEGA MAN in the same spirit of enthusiasm and affection; ditto the rest of the Heston triptych.
