A lot of promotional art was generated for Disney's 1979 space opera,
The Black Hole. About a year ago, I posted
a bunch of theatrical one-sheets from the film - one of my favorites from the era - and now, here's a couple more nicely-designed International theatrical posters that I've stumbled across in my galactic Googling. I particularly like the top one - it's a great image. Enjoy.
LOVE that Japanese poster on top... very cool image that gives the viewer a 'you are there' view of entering the black hole (and shows off much of what made the Cygnus such a cool looking--if impractical by real-world standards--space vessel).

I have a print of the Japanese poster, and it's one of my my favourites--it's loaded with detail (I always liked the giant cathedral-like design of the Cygnus's bridge) and has a real dark and ominous look to it, which is the main thing I get from The Black Hole whenever I watch it.
ReplyDeleteYes, the top poster really is cool and I wish that I had one for myself. I absolutely love the movie and it's one that I'm ashamed to say that I don't own. Is it even out on Blu-ray?
ReplyDeletecome on Disney what's taking so long on that Blu-Ray release?
ReplyDeleteHHMM looks like the team that brought us Tron Legacy is redoing the black hole, set for 2012 release.

Just got the Black hole on DVD recently for just a few bucks. It's kind of slow, but a good looking film.
ReplyDeleteSomewhere in the dark recesses of my mind, I remember there being a small cardboard display at the candy counter of the little theater where I saw the movie which had a motorized, rotating 'black hole.' Am I as crazy as Dr. Reinhardt or does anyone else remember one of those?
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part of this movie is when Dan is walking dow the corridor looking at all of the empty rooms.

I have a Cinefantastique double Issue (vol 9 no 3/vol 9 no 4) that goes into detail about almost every aspect of this film. You can usually find it on ebay and sometimes it can be a bit pricey, but it's definately worth the money. I saw this in the theater when I was all of about 3 and remember all of it. I broke down crying like a baby when Bob died and til this day I get mad that they didn't just pick him up and put him on the ship. Ugh!

I got the Starlog magazine issue #?? early 30s. One issue devoted its article to the animated effects that included believe it or not all the engines flaring on for all the ships. Pretty amazing work, who knew ....
ReplyDeleteAlso there is an obvious animated sequence right at the very end as the Probe ship exits the Hole and heads for an obscured planet, (many say its actually Earth or a counter type of Earth in a different zone of dimension). i wonder why they did not film that as a model...last minute thing?
effects shop people were on vacation??..Who cares, i love this film as many above do also!!!
