I can't even guess how many quarters I pumped into this game back in the Summer of '83. I had a full-time job at a paper mill that Summer, but pretty much every evening I would hang out with my friends at a now-long-gone, second-rate pizza parlor in Waterville, Maine, where we would divvy up mediocre peperoni pies and take turns at the Star Wars stand-up in the corner.
I really dig this artwork - because it's undeniably gorgeous, and because it reminds me of those long, pizza-filled evenings hanging out with my friends during what was pretty much our last Summer together before college, jobs and all the other things that go with adulthood caused us to drift apart....
Never played the game, but grabbed a magazine with this full glossy 2pg center spread ad back around '83 or '84.
ReplyDeleteYou're 100% right, it is gorgeous. Great color and printing.
This game was in my local arcade when i was a kid, it was great, now i play it on mame for free
ReplyDeleteLoved the game and its use of sound clips from the movie. The controller on it was perfect which wasn't always the case with custom ones on arcade machines. Such fond memories of it, especially the satisfaction I felt blowing up the Death Star. It is still one of best moments of gaming from the '80s.
ReplyDeleteI also pumped countless coins into this machine back in the day. My local arcade had it for a fair while, and then they got in the ESB one.
ReplyDeleteOh yes me and friends spend many a hour playing this one loved it.
ReplyDeleteNow this brings back memories of my childhood. I have always been a fan of the series.
ReplyDeleteGreat game. Have one (stand up version) in my collection that I saved from the junk yard. $400 in parts later its still alive and kicking. Found a guy online, years back that made a daughter board that allows it to switch over to ESB version with a flick of a switch (mounted mine inside the coin door). Brings back memories of the Arcade to this day.
