News: Final SPACE: 1999 New Release DVD Art

Above is the final key art for A&E Home Video's May 5th re-issue of the Gerry Anderson series Space: 1999 on DVD. Although released twice before in the U.S. by the company in a couple of different configurations/packaging options, this marks the first time the series has been offered in individual season sets on DVD in America. Note: these are standard-def DVD releases... the long-awaited Season Two Blu-rays still do not have an officially announced release date.

If you don't already have the show on DVD, you can pre-order the Space: 1999 Season One and Season Two set through Amazon and other online retailers.

  1. Wonder why they say "30th Anniversary" (which was 2005) instead of "remastered in hi-def" or somesuch...

    1. Probably because these are the most likely the same transfers they used on the previous DVD releases... in 2005.

  2. So, the question is the following: if I already have Space: 1999 in DVD, is it worth the new edition?

    1. I doubt it, unless you simply want to save space on your shelves with these more compact packages. It appears that the content is identical to their previous DVD releases.

  3. I suspect the delay on the S2 Blu-rays is that the UK publisher (Network Video) hasn't done the transfers yet (or at least hasn't finalized a release) - the A&E S1 set appears to be identical to theirs.

(Network also did a S1 DVD release in hi-def at the same time, but hasn't done S2 in that format either.)

Network's extremely close-mouthed about what they're working on until they have art and a street date set, but if I see an announcement I'll pass it on.

  4. I already own the Megaset so I'll pass. I'm waiting on the Season 2 Blu-ray release.

I can't believe how inexpensive this set is though - I can't believe how expensive these were when they were first sold as individual packs of episodes for it's initial DVD release, and even the megaset cost far more than both of these new box sets combined.
