Behind-The-Scenes Pix #45: ARK II

Hollywood sci-fi legend Robby The Robot awaits his cue on location during filming of Filmation's 1976 post-Apocalyptic adventure series, Ark II. In the episode, Robby portrayed Alpha-One, a robot created by Ark II crewmember Samuel (José Flores), who nobly sacrifices himself to save his organic comrades.

A much in-demand automaton, Robby guested on a number of Space: 1970 favorites, including Project U.F.O., Space Academy, Wonder Woman and Mork & Mindy.

  1. That's actually the thing about Robbie. After a brilliant start in the movies (with Forbidden Planet), his next movie was a flop, so he ended up doing guest spots on TV shows.

Thankfully he never stooped as low as appearing on Murder, She Wrote

  2. I wonder whatever became of the original costume. Time for some well honed Google Fu!

  3. I believe Bill Malone who built the Robby replica owns the original. He came to own Robby after building his own. I think he eventually sold the Robby replica to a Japanese company who wanted to buy the original from him.

I'm not able to post under my usual selection of Name/URL. Glitch in the system maybe?
