Captain's bLog: 1023.11

I wanted to explain why there have been no new posts here for the last week or so. I was informed by several visitors through e-mail and the Space: 1970 Facebook page, that they were getting malware alert warnings when they visited the site. Upon investigating, I discovered that asshole hackers/hackbots had installed malicious code within one of my online accounts, an account where I store many of the image files used on my various websites and blogs, including this one.

My wife, much more computer-savvy than I, went into the account, found intruder code and deleted it. The site was re-submitted to Google for examination and approval. I don't know if it has cleared Google's scanners as yet, but I haven't seen any new warnings in my Firefox or Explorer browsers. If anyone is still getting warnings, please let me know.

I didn't want to post anything new here until I (hopefully) had the problem taken care of.

With luck, everything will be cleared up by November 1st - the second anniversary of this blog. Keep your fingers crossed, Star Kids.

  1. It's still getting a malware warning from Google as of this morning, FYI. Good luck!

  2. Some of the "free" storage sites are easy to hack, and even when they aren't, often have annoying pop-ups.
As I rule, I use only the Google-related sites which seem more hack-resistant (and have no pop-ups!).

  3. I pay for my hosting - which makes it all the more annoying and frustrating.

  4. Good luck! I just discovered your blog last week and I'm already a huge fan. I had never even HEARD of "The Starlost". Such a great show.

  5. well this makes me rather upset... I haven't had one warning about your site since I started reading it from last year. So, apparently google isn't doing that great of a job warning people. And neither is my stupid antivirus that's supposed to warn me of stuff like this.

Thanks for letting those of us that were oblivious, know about it at least. That's important and shows just how vulnerable we can be without knowing.

I hope your problem is corrected and look forward to more posts in the future.

  8. Christopher,
I never thought that I would find a site like this. Your featuring so many of my favorite shows and movies from the 70's has rekindled all my feel-good childhood memories (born 1967). Although married now with children and career, I am still at heart the product of these science fiction/adventure programs you write about. A huge thank you from a kindred spirit. This is without a doubt my favorite site on the web. Posts on TV Guide entries! I too would search out and devour any listing/feature of SF/Adventure programs. I am greatly looking forward to all your future comments!

  9. So far, so good; I'm using Chrome to visit and it passed the blockers that came up when I tried to visit this for the last week.

Glad to see you back online, and hoping you never have to go through any of that again...

  10. Gad, how I hate the mishegoss that can happen to Internet blogs. A couple of years back, Blogger launched some kind of automated sweep to determine if any of the blogs posted through it were pornography sites and somehow my blogs got flagged and deleted. That was very distressing to me because there was no notification of this taking place and I was alerted to it happening by several of my many regular readers. Completely deleted were my primary blog, one devoted to the novels about Modesty Blaise, a movie review blog, another featuring easy-to-prepare recipes, and a record review blog, and not one of them featured any pornography. Yes, I occasionally used off-color turns of phrase and discussed topics of an adult nature, but I never once ran anything that could be construed as actual porn. Fortunately my readers, a number of whom are lawyers, came to my rescue and vehemently complained to Blogger, which was — thank the gods — able to restore my primary blog, though the others were lost forever and I had to re-build the ones I most cared about from scratch.

  11. Here's a piece of related trivia:

In "Star Trek V-The Final Frontier" a still of this "Logan's Run" city model is used as a backdrop outside of the window "Admiral Bob" ( played by Harve Bennett ) is standing in front of. It can be seen when he calls the Enterprise with orders for them to ship out on a hostage rescue mission.

  12. Sorry, that Logan's Run comment was meant to go on the page with the beind the scenes shot of the domed city model from the movie. Somehow my computer jumped back to this browser and it got posted here instead!
