This is pretty cool: raw effects footage from Brian Johnson's Space: 1999 SFX team, of various Eagle transporter landings, on Moonbase Alpha pads and alien landscapes. I think it really demonstrates the care and precision that went into shooting the miniature effects in those pre-CGI days.
Very fun to see............
ReplyDeleteAfter all these decades, I still wish I lived on Alpha.. No other place in sciende fiction has or will ever feel more like home.
ReplyDeleteSorry, 'science fiction'...
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm getting old, but I still prefer physical models on wires rather than 3D wire meshes in a computer. After seeing the first season of Space 1999 on blu-ray I have that much more appreciation for the talented people who did such a great job on this classic series.
ReplyDeleteCommissioner Simmond's orange pod transporter, from the opening episode...
ReplyDeleteThe Eagle is still one of the coolest spaceships of all time - I'm talking Top 5, mind you, along with the Falcon, the NCC 1701, the Starfury, and United Planets Cruiser C57-D. And in this new age of over designed CGFX I see no reason to expect it'll ever be beaten.
ReplyDeleteBTW Apparently season 2 will be out on blu-ray this year.
Best
