I hear there's some sort of sporting event going on today....

  1. The game was created to demonstrate the futility of individual effort.

Great film but the remake sucked big time !!

  2. Great memories from childhood of staying up late on weekends to see movies like this one, "Soylent Green", "the Ultimate Warrior", "Gargoyles", "Logan's Run", "Night of the Lepus", etc, etc.

  4. Yes, the remake was just awful and lacked the corporate/social storyline of the original. I hate when Hollywood creates crap like that.

    Octopussy sighting at 1:34.

  5. I was too young to see this when it was first released, but a friend showed it to me on Laser Disc when I was in college. Years later, I bought my own copy on DVD.

What's interesting about this film is how it's still got relevance today, arguably even MORE relevence today than when it was made, in spite of its dated look. I had hoped that a remake would have kept the social commentary while updating the look & pace a bit, but wow, they should have left well enough alone! (I have not suffered through the remake; the trailers and various summaries I've read were enough to turn me off. I don't normally like to pre-judge a film in such a way, but really, I don't have time to waste on fluff... I'll just re-watch the original!)

  6. The remake was an un-ironic espousal of everything the original was warning us about. Ugghhh.
