While I try and get myself back into a blogging mode, here's a look at the snarky original
TV Guide preview for
Buck Rogers In The 25th Century, which dutifully name-checks both
Galactica and
Salvage 1 (!), and appeared in the September 8, 1979 issue of that esteemed periodical.
A great little posting, and nice to see some male eye-candy on this great blog of yours! Gil was this gay man's dream of a hunk in the 1970s, and put the fantasy back into sci-fi.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of how as a kid I would read the fall preview issues of TV Guide and would eagerly await certain shows. The fall preview issue of TV Guide was second in line to the Holidays Sears Catalog that we got. I would read them over and over.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely agree with Gavin, for me in the '70s the TV Guide Fall Preview issue and the Sears Christmas catalog were an important part of my childhood.

I met Gil Gerard at a local car show back then. He was there signing autographs. I have now lost that photo unfortunately, but his signature was already printed on the picture and he signed our names to it to personalize. I thought that was strange even as a kid - he autographed our names. Gil was friendly though and seemed to be having fun.
ReplyDeleteI remember Gil Gerald also from a Custom Car Show in Philadelphia. And Twikie was there - or that's what it said on the banner behind him - after waiting around for I don't know how long - they rolled out the cheap inflatable toy Twikie from toy-r-us. Yea, I was 10 - majorly disappointed and left - not that I ever had a hard-on for Twikie in the first place.
