Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry poses on the impressive "PAX subshuttle station" set of his 1973 post-Apocalyptic sci-fi pilot film for Warner Brothers and CBS, Genesis II, starring Alex Cord (Airwolf) and Mariette Hartley.
Genesis II is available as a manufactured-on-demand DVD from Warner Archive, and I reviewed both the movie and the disc HERE.
I remember back in the 90s craig charles from red dwarf had a show on channel 4 were he showed old sci fi pilots like buck rodgers and battlestar, i remember he showed this one and planet earth, i think i still have them on vhs some where in my parents atic
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful set. They were very artistic back then. I'll have to look for this show.
ReplyDeleteThe sub-shuttle was one of those dream sets that I considered fabulous SF concepts-the conceptual precursors to today's maglev trains. I have both of these movies. I originally taped them off TV and later burned them onto CD. Strange New world is usually considered with these but really had very little in common with them. As a teenage nerd I liked cerebral Alex Cord better than John Saxon. The PAX in Carlsbad Caverns also fit my notions better than the advanced aboveground city in Planet Earth. But I thoroughly enjoy both these TV movies still- and once wrote an outline story involving the Confederacy Of Ruth.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I saw that photo was in Famous Monsters of Filmland when I was a teen, when it was mentioned that the movie was coming. Too bad their is not much info on the Subshuttle.
ReplyDeleteI first saw all the Hunt movies on this show "SPACED OUT"on BBC2 in the early 90s, they showed a lot of failed 70s sc-fi pilots.
