PLANET OF THE APES on VHS!

Roddy McDowell stares at us in another trade ad from the fine folks at CBS/FOX video in the 80s trumpeting the five film Planet Of The Apes series on VHS videocassette... at the low, low "sell-through" price of only $19.98 (or $15.15 with discount) and colorful, all new packaging!

  1. Oh the heady days of VHS. I have hundreds, collected greedily over the years. When I bought my PotA tapes, I only got one with the trade dress above, but it was so very very neat to have these movies at my fingertips.

I still remember lying home, sick as a dog, watching the whole canon through. I'd slither off the couch and crawl to the VCR to change tapes and painfully slither back. It was awful and wonderful all at the same time.

  2. I picked up the first two for 50 cents each a few years back, interesting to see how much they selling for back in the day

  3. I still have my copy of Beneath in the purple cover from this release. Home video is something of a sucker's game when you consider how much money we all spent on VHS, only to have them become worthless virtually overnight when DVD came along. And now of course BluRay and online streaming are doing the same thing to DVD... and yet I keep buying the silly things anyhow.

At least DVDs can be recycled when their time finally comes. I really wonder how many metric tons of old tapes are taking up space in landfills because there's nothing else to be done with them.
