One of the Year Two syndication TV promos for Space: 1999, with Martin Landau and Barbara Bain introducing the stunning Catherine Schell as "Maya, the wonder woman of science fiction." Enjoy!
I've often wondered what would have happened if the show had gotten a third season (or more). Despite the quirky science and 70's outfits, the show still has an excellent fanbase. It's still one of my guilty pleasures. And the Eagle ships are still one of the coolest designs ever created.
Space:1999 will ALWAYS be 'my show'.. It's by far my favorite sci-fi series, and it was my humble honor to meet Barry Morse just before his passing, and struck some good conversation up as well.
I remember seeing these in Milwaukee. I didn't like the campy, forced humor, 'Brian the Brain' episodes of Year 2, but Koenig and Alan Carter was always my favorite characters to watch, adding Bill Fraiser and Tony in the 2nd year as well. I remember the Catherine Schell-narrated promos being shown the most, but I don't recall ever seeing the Nick Tate ones which were also distributed.
Year 1 is still my favorite, although (aside from the terrible stories) Year 2 had some great stuff to offer as well.
I always give season 2 a chance, but it's never one me over. Season one had real potential. Season two has a few good episodes, but the stories frequently struggled and I missed the characters they cut after season one. I also wonder where would have gone if they gotten to do a third season. Still love the ships and even the uniforms.
Was wondering where I got 281 views on this.. Thanks for posting it, I'm glad everyone likes it :) (Youtube User "SentaiPrime" here) .. big fan of 70's and 80's cinema/tv, and love this site.. :)

Space: 1999 is a great show - or I should say 'shows'. Overall, the first season was very British, very heady; the second was American and campy.
ReplyDeleteI liked the Maya and Verdeschi characters, but prefer to watch episodes from the first season.
Regardless, thanks for the post. The DVD series has bonus station promos (of which this spot is used); they are a hoot to watch.
I really love season 2 .I know their are ill fellings towards it but I really enjoye it
