I actually saw this release! The Sensurround effect was interesting, but I reallt only remember it having a noticeable effect for the Galactica itself as it low-rumbled across the screen. The sensation was unusual and distracting, you'd really feel it in your chest.
I didn't start watching Battlestar Galactica until after the premiere, so I never saw the pilot on TV, but I did see the Sensurround release in 1979. Sadly, the same day I remember my mom reading the anouncement in the paper that the show had just been cancelled!
Wow, Now I have a sudden urge to start re watching the original series!
