Cute pic of Starbuck and Athena. Maren Jensen was clearly the best looking lady on the Galactica No pic of Artoo and C3PO I notice. Come on, they were clearly a couple!
Matthew: A) Writers didn't know what to do with her, I'm guessing. As for why she left acting, I've read that she became very ill in the early 80s and though she recovered, she never returned to the business.
B) That is the always stunning Ms. Caroline Munro, and the still is from Starcrash. Munro also appeared in At The Earth's Core, The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad, and The Spy Who Loved Me, among other films in the 70s and 80s.
The lovely Maren Jensen had a long term relationship with Eagles frontman Don Henley in the early 80's. I've read his autobiography and there's a few pages about it all. He describes how she was unsuited to the cut-throat world of showbiz and became ill because of it. She retired from acting completely after she appeared in 'Deadly Blessing', the Wes Craven movie (which is pretty good). There's some great clips of Maren in an episode of 'The Hardy Boys' on Youtube btw
Maren Jensen's casting on Battlestar Galactica was based more on looks than ability. In Glen Larson's original conception of the series, the Athena character was going to be much more prominent, but Ms. Jensen, a complete neophyte, lacked the acting experience necessary for the role of female lead character. Once production began, the producers realized they were in trouble and tried to compensate by making Laurette Spang (who originally appeared as a guest star in the pilot only) a regular cast member, and Cassiopea eventually became Starbuck's main love interest--a role originally meant for Athena. Furthermore, the additional casting of Anne Lockhart as Sheba during mid-season fulfilled the need for a female warrior who could share equal time with the men, thus making Ms. Jensen's role even less important until finally she just disappeared from the show entirely.
Gotta love a love story. Whatever happened to Marin Jensen anyway?

ReplyDeleteI wish her role had been bigger.I always thought she was way hotter than Cassiopeia

Imagine how that scene in "Empire" would have gone if they'd improvised a little:
ReplyDeleteLeia: I love you.
Han: Whoa! I thought we were just friends!
Leia: I love you.
Han: Hey, when I say Chewie is my "partner," what I mean is...
Damn. And just when I'd finally gotten over my 32-year crush on Ornella Muti... it's right back again.
ReplyDeleteMaren Jensen was hot! hot! hot!
ReplyDeleteNot sure if anyone noticed, but she appears less and less to nothing near the last set of episodes.
I think I read somewhere Glen Larson had intended her character to be out of Galactica completely had it gone into a second season.
Awesome pictures. I don't recognize the one with the Hoff'. What movie is that from? ***New Follower!***
ReplyDeleteYep, I'm always hunting for cool Galactica pics.., now I HAVE to get this one. Oy.
