Mark Hamill, just hanging around the wampa cave, during filming of the first (and best)
Star Wars sequel,
The Empire Strikes Back (1980), while producer
Gary Kurtz and director
Irvin Kirschner (at least, I think that's Kirsch back there) enjoy his discomfort.
I thought it was so much better when you were only able to see the Wampa in small parts.
ReplyDeleteAhh, Gary Kurtz and his amish looking beard. Must be some second unit stuff Kersh left to Gary, who stepped in for the second director spot, after the original died of meningitis on the first day. When Gary left after this film, the movies became an excuse to sell toys. (Sorry to be such a boffin, but I was just reading this stuff last night. You'll should look into a movie called '77 produced by him and yet to be released. It was originally called 5/25/77. )
ReplyDeleteI've long felt that it was Kurtz' participation in the first two Star Wars films that explained why they were so much better than everything that followed....
ReplyDeleteGary Kurtz was definitely an unsung hero of the first (and best) two Star Wars films. He would never have given us stuff like "midichlorians."
