News: SATURN 3 (1980) Blu-ray Key Art Revealed

Shout! Factory has released the key art for their upcoming DVD & Blu-ray combo of Saturn 3, which uses the original U.S. theatrical poster image of the homicidal robot, Hector.

Coming in December as part of the company's Scream Factory line, this 1980 Stanley Donen "sci-fi gothic" film stars Kirk Douglas, Harvey Keitel and Farrah Fawcett. More product details (i.e. extras, exact street date) to be announced in early Autumn. I'll be sure to pass along the info as it becomes available.

  4. Very, very nice. So glad it isn't some horrible photoshopped cut-n-paste job like so many awful blu-ray covers. There are some cool international posters too and I was kind of hoping for one of those but I knew if anything this would be the likely one they would go with.

Please keep us updated on this title. It's a must-buy for sure.

  5. I remember as a young teenager, walking past a big standee of Hector in my local multiplex, the Lewis and Clark Theaters in Washington state. The complex was designed so that to go to the most distant screens, you had to walk up a ramp, while to go to the "main" (big) screen, you would go down a different ramp. Seeing that cool robot, and far too young for the movie's "R" rating, I gazed wistfully up that forbidden ramp, wishing I could run up it to see that movie. I've always been a bit of a sci-fi nut, and that movie hit all the right notes.

Later, when I watched the film on video, I realized that while it wasn't a great movie, it sure wasn't bad. And it's definitely a window into the types of sci-fi movies that came out in the time period shortly after Star Wars revolutionized the genre.

  6. Saturn 3 may not be the greatest movie ever made, but it sure brings back pleasant memories from a time when every s-f production made in the wake of Star Wars and Alien seemed like a Really Big Deal. And it's got a little side-boob action from Farrah, too. :)
