This is a
genuine YouTube rarity: a
Star Trek public service announcement produced by Filmation Studios for the
Keep America Beautiful anti-pollution campaign, from the early 1970s. Featuring the voices of
William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and
George Takei.
I remember seeing this when I was a kid!
Wow. Cool.
ReplyDeleteThat's a damned good show, too.
I've gotta say, much as I love ST:TAS, that was rather... lackluster.
ReplyDelete"People finally got the point" :D
ReplyDeleteHey, there's a really weird alien sitting next to Sulu!
That's Lt. Arex!
ReplyDeleteApparently there was also an animated Star Trek anti-drug PSA; I've never seen it, but I've heard the audio track.
ReplyDeleteWhat a rarity! Can't say I recall seeing it firsthand, but i bet that i did! Fun stuff. I love animated Trek! Can't wait for more news on this new 2D one they're working on!
ReplyDeleteAs we later learned from Futurama, though, once we stop producing garbage, we won't have anything to use as a weapon against the older garbage that will come back to kill us all. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Big_Piece_of_Garbage)
ReplyDeleteI vaguely remember this PSA. I might have been only 7 or 8 when it was broadcast but I hung on every word of anything Star Trek so I would have watched it if it was on. Thanks for posting this.
