Happy Life Day!

"This holiday is yours, where we all share with you the hope that this day brings us closer to freedom and to harmony and to peace. No matter how different we appear, we're all the same in our struggle against the powers of evil and darkness. I hope that this day will always be a day of joy, in which we can reconfirm our dedication and our courage. And more than anything else, our love for one another. This is the promise of the Tree of Life."

The Star Wars Holiday Special aired 34 years ago today. Whatever else that can be said about it - and there's a lot that can be said - it's hard to argue with the sentiment. Happy Life Day, Star Kids!

  2. The Boba Fett cartoon was released as an Easter Egg on the Star Wars Blu-ray set. I am curious, though, to see which will see a DVD/ Blu-Ray release first: "The Star Wars Holiday Special" or "Song of the South."

  3. I saw it when it originally aired, and have since acquired a copy of it ("How to fight the frizzies" bit included.)

STILL better than ANY of the prequels.

  4. Vividly remember watching this when I was 8 years old.
I still rewatch it occasionally now.
    Still love the animated segment.

Too bad Kenner abandoned the plans to make action figures of Chewie's family. They got as far as the prototype stage.

  5. Oh, yes. THE WORLD NEEDS THIS ON BLU-RAY.

Seriously, whenever I wish to take my geeky cousin down a few pegs when he knocks Trek, I simply bring this travesty up.

But as a warm reminder to all Star Wars fanatics the world 'round: This beloved entry will, with nearly 100% certainly, escape any George Lucas reimaged CGI magic.

Sleep well, for it will remain 'unbesmirched' till the end of time.

  6. I haven't seen this in its entirety since if first aired. I was about five. I'd love to have this on blu-ray.

  7. I saw this when it was first on, but remember virtually nothing about it. I also bring this up in arguments when some Star Wars fan starts in about Star Trek V.
