MAN FROM ATLANTIS 1979 British Annual

Another short-lived 70s genre show that garnered a hardcover UK "Annual" was Man From Atlantis, starring Patrick Duffy as the titular undersea adventurer. As with the Space: 1999 Annuals that I recently covered here on the site, I've never actually seen this book in person, but I presume that its contents were the usual mix of comic book-type stories and short articles about the cast and characters.

Someday, I'd like to track down all of these books and add them to my Space: 1970 library....

  1. Living in the UK, I used to really look forward to the TV/movie annuals that would appear in time for Christmas. Some of the more short lived shows only stretched to a single edition and are hard to find now. I've certainly never seen this 'Man From Atlantis' one. The 'Space 1999' annuals are pretty easy to track down though. Had a couple of them myself

  2. There was also a Star Maidens and a couple of Blakes 7 and a Buck Rogers annual as well

  3. I don't have this particular one. I tried to get it on eBay but got out-bid. I do have the 'Planet Of The Apes' annuals though, and 'Logan's Run'. 'The Tomorrow People' Annual 1979 is worth getting mainly for a text story called 'The Dinosaur Is Back!' which rips-off the 1974 'Dr.Who' story 'Invasion Of The Dinosaurs'. No kidding! Best wishes, Zokko

  4. Those were great times. Man from Atlantis has a special place in my heart. It has been interesting comparing my boyhood memories to the recently released dvd from last year. Like yourself I too have never seen what looks like another great annual.

  5. I'm so happy Warner Bros. Released it on DVD. I'm watching the series over again in all its clarity and it looks stunning. I still think the water effects are amazing. Nowadays you don't even need the guy underwater with all the CGI. Patrick Duffy did a great job and so did Victor Buono. I'm waiting for the TV Guide with MFA on the cover from Ebay too. This looks like an interesting booklet. Hopefully it will be up for sale somewhere, sometime.

  6. Man From Atlantis is such a high-concept idea, I'm amazed it hasn't been optioned for a big screen "reboot"!

  8. I hadn't thought about these in years! "Man from Atlantis" was great. I'd love to read the novelizations some time. Uncle Jash, this does need a reboot!

  9. Can't speak for the contents of this annual but I have two Man From Atlantis tie-in paperbacks, both from 1977- "Man From Atlantis" ("Here comes Mark Harris, up from the ocean depths to turn his sea world powers against the world's most evil force!") & "Death Scouts" ("The aliens had come..threatening Mark's tie to Earth and perhaps the Earth itself!")
