Mr. Rogers Meets THE INCREDIBLE HULK (1978)

Children's television host/personality Fred Rogers (and Mr. McFeely!) of the long-running PBS series Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, visits the set of CBS' popular The Incredible Hulk series in these vintage clips, probably from 1979/80. Both stars Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno (in full Hulk mode) take time to discuss Hollywood "make believe" with the soft-spoken, sweater-clad visitor. Together, they run just under twenty minutes (although there's some overlap).

I had several people (including my wife) forward these to me in the last day or so - I'm guessing some blog much more popular than this one must have showcased these vids recently....

  1. My blog certainly isn't the one that made these clips popular again, but I did mention it way back in 2008.

  3. I remember seeing that when it aired! Sometimes things like this can demystify TV and for me this was one of those moments. I'd rather go through life thinking Bill Bixby really turned into the Hulk.

  5. Oh, this is SUCH a find. What a wonderful reminder of 'days gone by'....

Mr. Bixby (and of course, Mr. Rogers) are both certainly missed in a generation which has lost it's ability to be gentle and kind. What beautiful segments..

Y'know what I'm trying to hunt down..? I'd like to find those celebrity 'Good Morning Captain' segments for Captain Kangaroo. I vividly recall Richard Hatch doing one from the set of Galactica, would love to hunt that down.

    Great post, Chris..!!

  7. These were a lot of fun...... I saw Lou, out of makeup getting lunch up at Victoria Stations at the top of Universal Studios in 1979, before filming, I was 10.......needless to say I pretty much lost my mind! "Mom, look, it's Lou Ferrigno, the Incredible Hulk"..... i vividly remember he just had steak, nothing else on the plate, all protein! I was a HUGE Hulk fan...................
